Kdenlive Free and Open Source Video editing Software

Kdenlive (KDE Non-Linear Video Editor) is a free video editor devoted to GNU / Linux but also works on BSD and MacOS. Currently ported to Windows as a GSOC project.

Kdenlive is a free and open source video editing software based on MLT Framework, KDE and Qt. The project was started by Jason Wood in 2002, and is now managed by a small development team:

• Roger Morton (ttguy)
• Vincent Pinon

With the release of Kdenlive 15.04.0, it become part of the official KDE project.

The Kdenlive package is available for free for Linux, FreeBSD, and Microsoft Windows and the source code is available in accordance with the terms of the GNU Public LIcense version 2 or later.

KDE's Kdenlive make use of MLT, Frei0r effects, SoX and LADSPA libraries. Kdenlive supports all of the formats supported by FFmpeg or libav (such as QuickTime, AVI, WMV, MPEG, and Flash Video, among others), and also support 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios for both PAL, NTSC and various HD standards, including HDV and AVCHD. Video can also be exported to DV devices, or written to a DVD with chapters and simple menu wikipedia.

Multi-track Video Editing
Kdenlive allows you to use and arrange severall audio and video tracks, each one can be locked or muted to your convenience.

Being based on the powerful FFmpeg libraries, Kdenlive can use almost audio and video formats directly without the need to convert or re-encode your clips.

Configurable Interface and Shortcuts
You can arrange and save your custom interface layouts to fit your workflow. Keyboard shortcuts can also be configured to match yout preference.

Proxy Editing
Kdenlive can automatically create low resolution copies of your clips to allow you doing the editing on any computer, and then render useing full resolution.

Automatic Backup
Your project file is automatically bcked up every few minutes, and older versions of the project file are also kept in case you need to roll back to a previous version.

Timeline preview
Somtimes when using hi-res footage or complex effects, real-time playback is not possible. Timeline preview allows you to pre_render parts of your timeline to get a perfectly smooth playback.

Most effects can be keyframed, allowing to change the parameters over time, using linear or smooth curves to archieve the result you want.

Themeable Interface
Flexible theming engine capable of a variety of light and dark themes.
